Well, the rain held off and the people of Harrogate – and beyond – came and listened, clapped and cheered! Yes, our first live performance held on Sunday 11 July 2021 in the Valley Gardens was a huge success. Obviously, it was outdoors and we had to sing whilst being socially distanced, but all that didn’t really matter. It was just so good that Harrogate Theatre Choir was singing to an audience again. Here are a few pre-show photos showing how much we enjoyed seeing our choir pals again:

Once Catherine started playing the intros, it all came flooding back as though it was 2019 and our last live performance. We reminisced by digging into our back catalogue and singing ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, as well as a few from Mary Poppins (we tell ourselves these were for the children but we love them!) We also enjoyed singing a few of our more recent songs such as ‘Lullaby of Birdland’, Abba’s ‘Super Trouper’ and one of HTC’s favourites, ‘Moon River’. It was just wonderful to be back singing together again.

Here are just a few quotes from HTC members and from our audience:

“What a fantastic afternoon and my first concert with HTC. Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome. I look forward to many more live performances.” Christine

“Well done HTC. You sounded great! So good to see the choir back singing in public again. Some of your youngest fans agree.” Jen

“Amazing concert, lovely afternoon, the weather was kind to us. Thank you Catherine for keeping us going. Lovely to be performing again.” Linda

“Awesome to be back singing together – and such a buzz from singing together in concert! Thank you all, and especially Catherine, of course!” Andrew

Most importantly we raised over £180 for MIND in Harrogate District, our chosen charity of the year – a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the ‘bucket’ collections or bought a copy of our debut album ‘BINGE’. As most people will know, MIND aim to promote positive mental health within our local community and have been an important lifeline for many people during the current pandemic. When face to face sessions were not possible, MIND were busy Zooming and telephoning to ensure that help and guidance was still being provided.
