Hear it from the Men of HTC!
Male voices are hugely important to the overall sound of the choir, so Tenors and Basses are genuinely valued members.
You don’t need previous choir experience to join. I started at 53, couldn’t read music, didn’t know whether I was a Tenor or a Bass and had no understanding of four-part harmony.
HTC is incredibly welcoming and supportive, making it easy for new members to find their feet.
Singing is a brilliant way to switch off from the pressures of everyday life and be completely in the moment for a couple of hours each week.
It’s great for wellbeing and has certainly helped me manage the stresses and demands of work.
You’ll learn new skills and gain confidence. I’ve gone from not being able to read music to being able to follow a musical score and take my place in a choir where every voice contributes to something far greater than the sum of its parts.
The choir provides a real sense of belonging, friendship and community.
Choir is one of the most uplifting things I do. There are so many funny moments, lots of laughter and a wonderful sense of shared enjoyment. I always leave feeling better than when I arrived, and it’s become something I genuinely look forward to each week.
As a headteacher, much of my day is spent making decisions and carrying responsibility for others. For those two hours each Thursday, I can put all of that aside, immerse myself in the music and simply enjoy being part of the group. In many ways, it allows me to become childlike again, free from the pressures and demands of the working week.
My colleagues know that I don’t stay late at work on a Thursday evening because it’s choir night, and they know how much it means to me!
For me personally, joining HTC is one of the best decisions I’ve made and Thursday evenings have become the happiest two hours of my week.
Having sung with HTC for two years here are a few reasons to come & join us:
- Great tunes! If you’re a fan of musical theatre then this is the choir for you! You’re not going to like every song (obviously). But you will really enjoy most of them… and you will absolutely love many of them.
- Welcoming people. Everybody in the choir is very friendly and it’s a lovely, warm group with plenty of social interaction if you want it.
- No Prima Donnas. Everybody is down to earth and friendly. Even the sopranos 😉
- Concerts. We do perform and it’s a great sound and fantastic to be part of.
- You can do it. You absolutely do not have to be a trained musician or accomplished singer. You get a lot of help and support from both the MD and other members
- Recorded click tracks for every voice part are a proper help – especially for those of us who don’t read music.
Overall it’s a genuinely fun, welcoming environment to sing great songs with nice people.
