How the choir started

A chorus of enthusiastic local people was assembled to accompany the Harrogate Theatre actors.  Several members of the group enjoyed the experience so much they decided to continue singing in their own right.

A choir leader and accompanist were recruited and so the Harrogate Theatre Choir came into existence! The choir now has a strong and growing repertoire from stage and screen and is developing its skills under the leadership of Catherine Field-Leather.

While the choir is continuing to build strong links with Harrogate Theatre, it is keen to find new audiences and collaboration partners. We are open to offers!

Whilst everyone in the choir obviously has a passion for musical theatre, we also relish a challenge and love to show our versatility, as was the case when we performed The Armed Man Mass for the First World War Centenary commemoration concert in November 2018.

Today, Harrogate Theatre Choir is a vibrant performance-led choir that has a wide and wonderful repertoire of songs from both stage and screen.

We are a 40+ strong choir that is both ambitious and friendly. We rehearse, perform and socialise together with the ultimate aim of sharing our enthusiasm for singing with our audiences.

We are an inclusive, non-auditioning choir with a Musical Director who wishes to inspire the individual and help to develop both singing technique and confidence.

Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings in Harrogate.

If you would like singing to become a more regular part of your life, please don’t be shy.   Come along to one of our next “open rehearsals” being held on Thursday 19 September and 26 September 2019 from 7.30 pm to 9.15 pm.   For further details, check out “Future Events”.

During our 2018/2019 season, the choir is supporting two local charities – the Harrogate Homeless Project and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
